Eye surgeons and specialists from the Asia will meet at a conference in Pakistan from February 24 to 28.
It is for the first time that the Asian eye specialists are meeting in Lahore. It is being organised by the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology, an organisation of eye surgeons of Asian and Pacific countries. Interestingly, a group of 20 doctors from Punjab and Chandigarh will not only exchange views about their profession and recent advancements in the profession, but they will also strive to harmonise bilateral relations through the medium of culture.
The group of Indian doctors is being led by Dr Balbir Singh Bhaura, Medical Director, Akal Eye Hospital.
“It is a matter of great honour and prestige that the meet is being organised in Lahore. More than 100 doctors from all over the Asia will attend,” said Dr Bhaura, whose wife is also participating.

EYE CAMP : An eye check-up-cum-environmental awareness camp was organised at Maili village in Hoshiarpur on Sunday by Akal Eye Hospital. Dr Balbir Singh Bhaura, Chief Eye Surgeon of the hospital, said about 200 patients were examined and were provided medicines free of cost.

More than 100 eye doctors were apprised of the utility and application of Phaconit — the latest international level eye surgery with world’s smallest incision ranging between 1 mm and 1.2 mm — with the help of interactive Live Video Eye Surgery Demonstration at the 7th annual conference of the Punjab Ophthalmology Society at Akal Eye Hospital here today.
To surprise of delegates, public and doctors the society made visually disabled Atma Ram Bharti to inaugurate the conference, at which delegates were given saplings of different species of trees.
Three-member team, of two noted ophthalmologists Dr Daljit Singh of Amritsar, Dr Balbir Singh Bhaura and Dr Poonam, junior doctor, gave demonstration of Phaconit surgical procedure with the help of a video screen. During surgery, the team also replied to queries of 100 ophthalmologists on the use of the technique. |
